WW1 - No Man's Land
A downloadable game
Overview
A game where players take turns moving troops up a WW1 themed battlefield in hopes of taking all the trenches. The first player to take all of these wins the game.
Players can also use special cards to tip the odds further in their favor, even when their army is nearly depleted!
The cards
There are 2 card categories, lethal cards and tactical cards.
As of now, players can choose to draw from either the lethal or tactical card deck, or they can choose to only move troops around for their turn. This rule is most likely to change though such that players will always be required to have 1 lethal and 1 tactical card in their deck at all times.
When a card is drawn though, it's presented in a war letter like fashion, as seen here:
Lethal Cards

Lethal cards will directly harm the opponent by killing their troops. There are 4 different cards in this category as of now.
Artillery

Fire an artillery shell. Creates a 3x3 blast zone on impact, killing any troops in it.
Chlorine Gas

Fire a shell containing Chlorine Gas. Creates a 3x3 blast zone, killing any troops inside. Leaves a 3x3 lethal region that lasts 3 turns and moves 1 unit toward the enemy each turn.
Grenade

Select a troop to throw a grenade 8 or less units away at. Grenade creates a 3x3 impact zone, killing any troops caught in the blast.
Step on mine

One of your troops has stepped on a mine and will perish. Select which one.
Meant as a deterrent from always drawing from the lethal card deck.
Tactical Cards

Tactical cards will indirectly harm the opponent by giving you some type of tactical advantage on the battlefield. There are 4 different cards in this category as of now:
Smoke bomb

Select a 3x3 grid to fire smoke at. Troops are not allowed to move in or through this smoke region. The region lasts for 3 turns, and moves 1 unit from your side each turn.
Reinforcements

If not at max troops, call in at most 2 troops. These troops spawn on your side of the battlefield.
Patch up troop

Revive 1 dead troop anywhere on the battlefield. Troop will be back in action on the next turn.
Misfire

Your army's weaponry has malfunctioned. Turn skipped!
Meant as a deterrent from always drawing from the tactical card deck.
The armies
There are currently only 2 armies in the works as of now - the British army and the German army.
Planning to have more armies later on , but below are what the frames for what these armies are looking like (still a work in progress, especially the German troop frames):

The old version of the game
A while back I designed a physical board game for my level design class. The board game was a turn based strategy game based on WW1 trench warfare.
Some art from the board game itself
Below is some of the old art I created in Adobe Illustrator for the physical version of this board game!

(The board itself, which has 3 trenches)

Hey I had an idea if you want to add a new class and be more creative you should add the japeneese (The fight aginst german). Just an idea tell me wat you think
Ya definitely think having other factions will be a must have for a game like this!
Will you add more countries?
Definitely want to, and probably will, though for starters i'm gonna try and wrap up the British and German troops and use those to get the game to a base version.
this looks cool but a little advice the standard brodie hat for the british was implemented in 1916 amd the german pointy hats were phased out by then but other than that looks sick
Appreciate the feedback, also thanks for the pointers! Will be sure to keep that in mind as I finalize the animations.
Hello man, I've been watching your project since devlog 4, and it scared me because I thought you had abandoned the project, your progress looks great and I think it also has wood for a videogame boardgame.I'm happy to see how this progresses. Esta chilero tu cosa, ponte pilas.
Thanks! Means a lot!
